Working From Home With Multiple Sclerosis

Work From Home

Pulling the Plug

I LOVED my job.  I loved the people I worked with and for and I loved what I got to do each day.  I thought I would be retiring from that job – when I was of retirement age.  MS had a different idea.  I drove to various doctor’s offices and talked with the docs and their staff most days.  There were also Chamber of Commerce, economic development and lunch meetings to attend.  I drove to all of those and to our corporate office several times each month as well.  I drove ALOT.  So – when I started to confuse the gas and the brake pedals and had trouble remembering which side of the road was the correct one for me to be on, I needed to reassess.  This was for my safety and the safety of others.

But just because I had to leave that job didn’t mean that I was ready to quit working. I get a great sense of satisfaction and accomplishment by being productive and involved in something outside myself and my disease. Additionally, I feel better when I’m contributing to my family’s income. It was a tough decision to make, but it was very necessary. I need to be able to lay down at various times throughout the day. I need to get down on the floor and stretch. Sometimes the fatigue sneaks up and I need a nap. Given that set of circumstances, who the heck was going to hire me??

Now What?

I determined that working for myself from home made the most sense for me. I looked at all the opportunities – and SCAMS (boy are there a lot of those out there) and I settled on one that made inherent sense to me: internet business. I could work from home, for myself, on my own schedule and be the captain of my own destiny. I could start a website about whatever I was passionate about, write a blog, build an audience, find out what they needed and be the supplier for that need. I could be doing good for others while providing an income for myself and my family.  Great – but I didn’t have a clue how to do any of that.  Now what?

I Don’t Know How

Seem impossible? I thought so too – until I found Internet Business Mastery (IBM). They provide such comprehensive training in all things internet business: how to choose a niche, how to build an audience, how to blog, how to market online, all about social media, how to identify your audience’s needs and fulfill them – basically everything I needed to know to start and run a successful online business – hence, FUMSnow.com was born! I’m very proud of this website. I knew NOTHING about how to do anything I just listed, but the Internet Business Mastery Academy walked me through everything step-by-step. And most importantly to me – the training is all online and there to review anytime I need it. Let’s face it – MS can make learning and retention difficult. I’ve learned and forgotten a lot!! But I can always go back to review the bite-sized lessons they provide whenever I need it. They refer to that as “just-in-time-learning”! And it’s a huge gift to those of us that may have more difficulty retaining information. FUMS!  Additionally, they keep updating the information as this internet business stuff evolves!  I can stay on top of everything right from my desk (or bed or sofa or recliner).

You Can Too!

I wanted to share how I’ve done it – and make sure that you avoid the time and trouble I went through to get here.  I spoke with the guys at IBM about this wonderful FUMS community – and how helpful this could be to so many of you.   They agreed, so we’ve put together a great opportunity for training and extra support specifically for the FUMS’ers interested in this liberating possibility. You can sign up to become the latest member of the IBM Academy now and start learning immediately. Additionally, if you sign up before Saturday, January 10th, 2015 at midnight (EST), as a bonus, you’ll be invited in to my private Facebook group specifically for FUMS’ers working through the IBM academy AND, a complimentary 1/2 hour one-on-one call with me to answer any of your questions about online business, MS or anything else I can help you with. It’s always more fun (and provides more accountability) when you do something with others.  Click here to get more info about the Academy.

Now’s the time, today’s the day. Take back your future. If I can do this – you can do this – and WE can do this together.
